Research Focus
Dr. Schalinske’s research focus is primarily on the biochemical pathways associated with folate metabolism and methylation. He has explored the regulation and perturbations of the enzymes and intermediates of this complex system and identified novel aspects. Because methylation is essential to a range of physiological and biochemical systems, his worked has examined several disease models, including diabetes, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and birth defects. His research has been supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, American Institute for Cancer Research, American Diabetes Association, Egg Nutrition Center, United Soybean Board, and other agencies.
